Year 1 – Home Learning Tasks

In preparation for school closure or in the event that your child is absent from school for an extended period of time, we have put together some activities that you may like to do at home.

On top of this, please keep reading every day; this could be a book from home or all children have access to bug club online - https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Your child’s login details should be stapled in the front of their reading journal. Please remember to write it in the reading record as this could become useful evidence for reading progress.

The children are very familiar with the website https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/. They have provided free access for all parents at this time. Username: march20 and password: home. The children are all learning the Phase 5 sounds.

We are currently learning about height and measure in Maths and will be moving on to multiplication and division in the Summer term. The children are expected to be able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s and put these into equal groups by sharing as well as make doubles. If you would like further support on this, we follow the White Rose scheme of learning. This can be accessed at www.whiterosemaths.com.

If you would like any further resources to help, www.twinkl.co.uk has a huge variety of activities and resources available. These too have been made free for the time being. Please visit www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS.

We hope this helps and will be keen to hear about what the children have been up to on their return to school.

We wish you all well.

Kind regards,

Mrs Penfold, Miss Fitzgerald and Mrs Baker

Activity 1

Make your own London cityscape artwork.

Activity 2

Search the web with an adult to find pictures of different cities in the world. Can you record a fact about each city?

Activity 3

Create a biography about someone famous from London. Draw a picture and write down some key facts.

Activity 4

Build a real or fantasy city using Lego, blocks or 3D junk materials from home. Play with your city using figures and vehicles.

Activity 5

Draw a map of a city and direct a toy car or figure using words such as forwards, backwards, straight ahead, left, right, up, down, under and over. To extend this further, become a tour guide and record yourself!

Activity 6

Create your own story about Paddington Bear. You may like to write this, record it or even act it out to a family member or friend!

Activity 7

Create your own city song to the tune of ‘The Wheels on the Bus’. Your song should start with, ‘I went to the city and I saw…’

Activity 8

Make a leaflet for a famous London attraction. You may have been to visit this place or you could find out about it on the internet.

Activity 9

Imagine you were planning a day trip to London. What would you pack in your rucksack?

Draw or take photos. Remember to explain why you need each item!
